Hi Mommy,

I’m sure it’s getting late, but if you’re still awake, please read this message.

Have you had the chance to replay your day? To over analyze your choices? Have you thought about multiple ways you could have handled things differently today? Are you making a mental To-Do list for tomorrow?

I get it, Mommy, I totally get it.

And I’m really glad you are here right now because I want to talk to you about something important. So please, read this very closely– I don’t want you to miss this message I wrote for you tonight…

You did hard work today, Mommy.

It’s really hard work taking care of little ones. It’s a continuous battle of picky eating, tantrum-negotiating, booty-wiping, and caring for those tiny humans we love the most. Whether it’s teething, potty training or sleeping routines, our days begin to melt into each other. A never-ending blur. Our nights stop providing us with the rest we need. And after a while, we often start to lose hope that our days will ever get any better.

I know. I feel that way too.

Motherhood is hard. And when you have those days or weeks or months where you feel particularly lost (or overwhelmed) you really just need someone to speak truth to you. The truth is each and everything you do– it matters.

So please, take a second with me. Absorb my words fully. You’re going to make it. You really are. And I’m so glad I get to be the one to remind you.

Here are 3 things you should do when you feel like you’re losing hope as a Mom.

Value your work, stop saying, “It was nothing.”

Be proud of all that you do day in and day out. This isn’t an easy job. Finding spit-up in your hair, breastfeeding through growth spurts, and cleaning poop out of the bathtub is FAR from glamorous. Vacuuming. Washing dirty dishes. Doing loads of laundry every day. Our job can seem less than important. They say motherhood is so beautiful. Well, it is. But you know what they don’t say? Motherhood is gross sometimes. Maybe nobody warned you that you’ll find yourself wearing the same shirt for days on end or wondering how much time has lapsed since you last washed your hair. But try to remember every moment is worth it and every job you do is important. You are important. Your family is important. You are everything to your children (and your husband!). So hold your head high, Mommy. It’s not nothing. Value the work you do.

Be grateful for the opportunity to serve your family.

I’m not going to lecture you about women who wish to be in your shoes– to have a family like yours. I’m not one to lecture on this subject at all, mostly because I still struggle with it myself. But I want to share this: you have the opportunity to strengthen your family through everything that you do. And I mean everything. Even the smallest things. You may not realize this, but you have an enormous influence on not just your kids, but also your husband. Please be grateful for this opportunity and make the best of it. If Mommy’s in a great mood, there’s good chance your children and your husband will be too. Your family feeds off your energy. It’s contagious. Another example could be something as simple as changing the bed sheets for your family. There’s nothing better than crawling under the covers to fresh sheets. Be grateful you can provide that simple comfort for your family. And last (but not least!) the absolute most important reason is saved for last, God wants us to be grateful for our opportunity to serve others. How can you argue with that?

Just keep going.

Motherhood can be lonely. Our day to day duties as a Mommy can be repetitive and monotonous. Some days are even spent taking many deep breaths and watching the hands on the clock tick by. But please, believe me when I say this– You love your babies fiercely. You’re doing a good job. Your work counts. You are exactly what your children need. You’re simply too important. You can’t quit. You have to just keep going.

Need something to help you on this journey of hope?

I’ve created the perfect gift for you to keep, Mommy. Something that I hope you will put in a frame by your mirror, sit on top of your dresser, or use as a placeholder in your favorite book. I’m right in the middle of a Mommy rut. I’m struggling hard with my toddler and having difficulty finding balance between work, family, and blogging. I needed this today.

I’m so glad I could help during a difficult time. It’s really hard to find the perfect balance– it often feels like I’m never 100% either at work or at home because I’m spread too thin. We just have to keep going, Mama! You’re doing great.

Thank you so much for sharing! This morning was really tough with my daughter and we’ve been in a rough season of life lately. We’re both growing and it’s difficult. It’s nice to know others are in my position.

Don’t lose hope Mama! You are definitely not alone. All Mamas go through rough seasons with their children. I know that doesn’t make it any easier though. We’ve gotta just keep going 🙂
